Andhra Pradesh CM launches test flight of sea planes on Krishna river

According to a report in The Hindu Business Line, N Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister, Andhra Pradesh, launched test flight of sea plane (amphibian flight) on Krishna river in Vijayawada yesterday.He said on the occasion that "with a long coastline, rivers and reservoirs Andhra Pradesh has great potential for developing tourism by introducing sea planes."
Asking SpiceJet to make Amaravati as spice jet aviation hub, Naidu urged Ashok Gajapati Raju, Civil Aviation Minister, Government of India, to frame regulations as early as possible to introduce sea planes in the state to promote tourism. The Chief Minister said tourism plays important role in generating employment and development of service sectors. He said there was great potential for developing heli-tourism in Tirupati and Visakhapatnam. Naidu also appealed the Union Minister for Civil Aviation to make efforts to allot slots in Delhi and Mumbai airports for introducing more number of services from AP.
The second test flight of sea plane was conducted yesterday, while the first was conducted off West Coast recently.
The Union Minister said that once the runway was extended at Gannavaram airport, it would pave way to introduce international flights and landing of the bigger aircraft.
Ajay Singh, CMD, Spice Jet, said Vijayawada-Delhi, Mumbai, Delhi-Tirupati services would be introduced in summer schedule. Describing the sea plane services as a revolutionary project, he said that the company is ready to buy hundred sea planes to meet the demand in the country. He said smaller cities have tremendous potential and they should be brought under country’s aviation map.
