Club Med Resorts looking to tap upper middle income group from India

Club Med, a French company offering all-in holidays to travellers in its resorts located in vacation village regions like Bali, Bintan, Phuket, is now eyeing immense potential from the upper middle-class Indian travellers. Speaking about the potential in the Indian market, Manoj Upadhyay, Business Development Manager-India, Club Med, says, “Indian outbound tourism has been increasing gradually over the years. According to the Indian analytical studies, it is now approximately at 7-10%.”

Moreover, Upadhyay said, “We are coming up with a resort in Sri Lanka and Lombok which will be operational from 2019. Sri Lanka is a neighbouring country, so we are looking forward to bring in more Indian travellers to this property.”

According to Youssef Tobrouki, GM/ Chef de Village, ClubMed Bintan Island, Indonesia, said, “India is a crucial market for us, thus we have proposed and included Indian vegetarian menu in our resorts with an Indian chef who dishes out the exclusive Indian recipes.” Adding to this, Upadhyay said, that they have an Indian chef in their properties in Bali, Bintan, Maldives, Phuket, etc. The Club Med Bintan Island Resort also has three conference rooms for MICE activities.

Upadhyay further said that the perception of Club Med has been inapropriate, where the traveller feels the brand’s focus is on Medical Tourism, which indeed is not the case.

The Club Med properties offer all-inclusive, hassle-free, personalised holidays to their travellers where food, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, accommodation, entertainment and recreational activities like- sports, skiing, land sports, yoga lessons, aqua zumba, circus, trapeze, and archery, and circus for children are included in total cost of the package. Upadhyay said that the guests might only need to pay for services like spa and motorised water sports.
