HRAWI seminar reflects on last 7 months of GST regime for hotels and restaurants

The Hotel and Restaurant Association of Western India (HRAWI) organized a seminar on GST – Key issues for Hospitality sector on 31st January 2018 in the city. The seminar reflected on the last seven months of hospitality under the GST regime and was conducted by experts Dr Shrikant Kamat, Senior Partner in the Indirect Tax practice in the Western Region for BDO India and Mr Anand Parasrampuria, Director with Ernst & Young, Mumbai. Among several GST related changes and updates, the seminar presented a detailed summary on the Tax Rates, Input Tax Credit (ITC) and Compliances, and also addressed a growing concern amongst many hoteliers and restaurateurs regarding anti-profiteering and its provisions.

In anticipation of the new E-Waybill regime, the seminar also included a presentation and discussed the several aspects on the subject.

“Since the GST came into effect in July, 2017, it has been constantly tweaked and fine-tuned for the better. Although this is a good thing for all of us, it also means that we need to be constantly updated and aware of any changes that may affect our businesses. The HRAWI organized this seminar in line with the seminars previously organized for our fraternity’s benefit. The number of inquiries received and turnouts witnessed for the seminars so far are an indication of the need for such forums and we will continue to organize such seminars in the future too,” says Mr Dilip Datwani, President, HRAWI.
