Jaipur now become ‘no construction zone’ in an effort to get UNESCO heritage site

The walled city of Jaipur will soon be declared by the state government as a ‘no construction zone’, thereby putting a stop to all types of construction in the walled city area. This move by the Rajasthan Government is looked upon as a move to get the walled city recognised as a UNESCO world heritage site. Once the city turns into a no-construction zone, a complete ban will be imposed on any construction or even renovation by families settled there.

Some of the prime roadblocks that are getting in the way of the walled city’s desired status are traffic congestion, and encroachments. Also, unplanned constructions have been one of the reasons adding to its misery. All these components add up which ultimately fail the city of Jaipur to meet the standards specified by UNESCO.
