SAT appoints Alpa Jani as Acting Hub Head MEISEA, Tourism Execution

South African Tourism is pleased to announce Alpa Jani’s appointment to the key trade relations and marketing role for the MEISEA region.

Alpa Jani has served as Trade Relations Manager at South African Tourism’s Mumbai office for seven years.  During this time, she has worked with travel agents to position South Africa as a standalone destination in the early years and then moved on to increasing length of stay, which now stands at a commendable 11-14 days. Her projects at South African Tourism include South African Tourism’s immensely popular Learn South Africa programme in India, which in its second edition, travelled to 17 cities – educating travel agents on the intricacies of selling destination South Africa.

The new position will expand the scope of Ms Jani’s responsibility to cover the Middle East and South East Asia in addition to India.  She brings great value to the role over and above her many years at South African Tourism because she comes with well-rounded tourism experience that includes airline and tour operator expertise. She started her career at South African Airways in 2003 as Supervisor -Reservations and Ticketing. She then took on the role of Assistant Manager E-business at Thomas Cook. In 2008 Ms Jani went on to handle HNI business at Thomas Cook’s Indulgence. She joined South African Tourism in 2010.

Hanneli Slabber, Regional General Manager: Asia/Australasia/Middle East says, “Alpa has shown passion, determination and commitment to creating the best possible market for destination South Africa in India. She has a great relationship with the travel trade here and a wonderful understanding of market demands. Additionally she has shown expertise in working with the South African travel trade to make sure that the product meets market requirements. I am confident that she will bring all of her past learnings and strengths to her new role and excel at it.”

Commenting on her appointment, Alpa Jani says, “I am delighted at the opportunity and I look forward to taking destination South Africa to new markets, ripe with potential.”
