 IATO’S 34th annual convention inaugurated in Visakhapatnam

     Visakhapatnam, September 6th, 34th Indian Association Of Tour Operators convention was inaugurated by Shri K. J Alphons, Minister of state ( independent charge) tourism, minister of AP tourism, minister of kerala Tourism, Secretary Tourism, Govt. Of  India, Sec. Andhra tourism and CEO of Andhra tourism  at Novotel hotel.


The evening started with cultural performances of local inhabitants of Andhra Pradesh followed by welcome speeches by Rajeev Mehra – Vice President IATO and convention Chairman.


        President of IATO, Pronab sarkar requested ministry of tourism, India to cut-off the taxes to increase the tourism and requested media to stop the negative telecasting that effects tourism adversely . He thanked the hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra for his all out support for the cause of tourism . He informed that IATO has donated to Kerala Chief Minister Relief fund through its entire channels more than half a million Rs.


 Bhima Akhila Priya, Minister of AP tourism highlighted attraction of Andhra Pradesh and facilities added to boost tourism to the state. She informed the august gathering Andhra is on the 3rd place in domestic tourism and there are new facilities being introduced in Visakhapatnam to increase tourists by 2019. She also informed that in last four years they have doubled the star category occupancy and their target is to reach one lakh by 2019.


The three-day event whose theme aimed at 20 million foreign tourists by 2020, and will debate on pertinent issues that India currently faces in reaching this milestone. We have recently crossed 10 million mark doubling this number in that short span, was a herculean task but as per the tourism minister Mr. Alphons this is achievable. He said , “we have to come out from our comfort zone and think of new products out of the box, like Andhra have done.”

Kerala Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran, who was present at the event has invited IATO to organise their next convention in the state. He asked IATO members to market Kerala now, he said, “We are ready to receive guests in all our facilities.”
