Kerala’s Kappad and Chal Beaches Awarded Prestigious Blue Flag Certification

Kerala’s Kappad beach in Kozhikode and Chal beach in Kannur have received the esteemed Blue Flag certification from the Denmark-based Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). This recognition is awarded to beaches that meet stringent environmental, safety, and sustainability standards, further boosting Kerala’s reputation as a sustainable tourism destination.

Tourism Minister Shri P. A. Mohamed Riyas hailed the certification as a significant milestone, emphasizing that it enhances the global appeal of these beaches while showcasing Kerala’s commitment to preserving its natural beauty through eco-friendly practices. He noted that the achievement would attract environmentally conscious travelers and solidify Kerala’s standing as a leader in sustainable tourism.

Tourism Director Smt. Sikha Surendran highlighted that the Blue Flag status reflects Kerala’s dedication to responsible and accessible tourism. Both Kappad and Chal beaches have become models of Responsible Tourism (RT) by implementing eco-friendly initiatives and ensuring a hygienic and safe environment for visitors.

The Blue Flag certification is an internationally recognized award given to beaches, marinas, and boating operators that meet 33 stringent criteria, including environmental sustainability, safety measures, and visitor amenities, aligning Kerala’s beaches with global standards.
