In a first for Hyderabad, a heritage ropeway is set to connect two of the city’s most iconic landmarks Golconda Fort and the Qutub Shahi Tombs. The project, designed under a public-private partnership model, aims to enhance tourist mobility and reduce travel time between the sites from 20 minutes by road to under 10 minutes by cable car.
The 2 km ropeway will feature modern six-seater cable cars, offering visitors panoramic aerial views of the city’s historic quarter. Ticket prices are expected to be kept affordable to encourage widespread use, making it accessible to both domestic tourists and international visitors.
City planners believe the project will not only improve visitor experience but also help decongest surrounding roads, which are often clogged during peak tourist season. The integration of a heritage transport solution is also expected to draw new segments of travellers seeking unique experiences. Construction is slated to begin later this year, with operations planned for mid-2026.
