Mizoram Tourism Partners with IRCTC to Boost Connectivity and Visitor Inflow Ahead of New Railway Link

In a strategic move to position Mizoram as a top tourist destination in Northeast India, the Government of Mizoram’s Department of Tourism has signed a two-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). The agreement, inked in Aizawl by Lalthakimi Pachuau, Joint Director of Tourism, and RN Ranmung, Chief Regional Manager of IRCTC, Guwahati, aims to enhance tourism through joint promotional campaigns, curated itineraries, improved travel logistics, and targeted initiatives to attract visitors. The timing aligns with the upcoming completion of a new railway line connecting Aizawl by September 2025, which will be followed by the launch of a Special Tourist Train to Mizoram in October, offering direct access to the state’s scenic and cultural attractions. Alongside boosting inbound tourism, the MoU also features affordable outbound travel packages for Mizoram residents, creating opportunities for cultural exchange and local exploration. This collaboration is expected to generate jobs, promote sustainable tourism, and increase Mizoram’s visibility on both national and international tourism maps. With IRCTC’s operational expertise and Mizoram’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty, the partnership has been welcomed by stakeholders and local communities as a transformative step towards long-term growth in the state’s tourism sector.
