Moscow has introduced a unique tourism project, ‘Let’s Play Moscow’, designed to make the Russian capital more engaging for its youngest visitors. Recently tested by nearly 2,000 participants from 18 countries during the IV Children’s International Cultural Forum, the initiative offers interactive routes tailored to children’s interests while encouraging families to explore the city together. The project transforms young travelers into “heroes on a mission,” guiding them through themed excursions with cartoon-style maps available at tourist information centers, select hotels, and other city locations. To make the experience inclusive, the tours are available in English and Chinese, making them accessible to international tourists.
Two special routes are currently available for foreign families: ‘Secrets of the Green Planet’, an eco-themed journey through central Moscow starting from the Christ the Saviour Cathedral and ending at Zaryadye Park, and ‘To the Lunar Seas’, a space-themed adventure at VDNH where children learn about space exploration and even build rockets while visiting the Atom Museum and Cosmonautics and Aviation Center. Along the way, children complete fun tasks, collect stickers, and scan QR codes for extra learning, while adults enjoy Moscow’s cultural and historic landmarks. At the end of each mission, families can collect a souvenir from tourist information centers. Participation in the routes is free, with only museum entry tickets requiring payment where applicable.
With this innovative project, Moscow strengthens its reputation as a child-friendly megapolis, adding to popular family attractions like the Central Children’s Store on Lubyanka Street, Moscow Zoo, and Dream Island amusement park. By combining education, play, and sightseeing, ‘Let’s Play Moscow’ ensures that both children and parents experience the city in a fun, memorable, and interactive way.
