Taiwan Rising as a Global Culinary Destination, Lures Indian Food Lovers

Taiwan is fast emerging as a major hotspot on the global culinary map, captivating travellers with its rich blend of tradition, innovation, and international influences. The island nation’s growing gastronomic stature is underscored by the 2025 edition of the MICHELIN Guide Taiwan, which now features 419 establishments across Starred, Bib Gourmand, and Selected categories, up from 343 last year.

For the first time, the Guide spans seven cities, including Taipei, Taichung, Tainan, Kaohsiung, New Taipei City, Hsinchu County, and Hsinchu City, reflecting the deepening sophistication of Taiwan’s culinary landscape. This year’s edition includes 53 MICHELIN Starred restaurants, with eight newcomers earning One MICHELIN Stars, three promoted to Two Stars, and seven restaurants now celebrated for their eco-friendly practices with MICHELIN Green Stars.

Taiwan’s food identity, shaped by indigenous traditions, multicultural exchanges, and a culture of innovation, is now a key driver of its tourism appeal. From bustling night markets and street food stalls to high-end fine dining, the island offers a spectrum of experiences for all tastes.

Highlighting Taiwan’s appeal to Indian travellers, Paul Shih, Director of the Singapore Office, Taiwan Tourism Administration, said, “From Hakka cuisine and affordable seafood to vegetarian-friendly options and our iconic bubble tea, Taiwan offers flavours that resonate with Indian preferences. Our culinary scene blends authenticity with innovation, inviting visitors to experience both heritage and modernity.”

With food becoming a central motivator for travel, Taiwan’s gastronomic offerings are increasingly influencing tourism choices. Night markets buzzing with local delicacies, affordable seafood, innovative fusions, and world-class fine dining make the island a compelling destination for both first-time and repeat travellers from India.

“Taiwan’s commitment to sustainability, culinary excellence, and warm hospitality ensures that visitors enjoy not only great food but also meaningful cultural experiences,” Shih added. With its expanding MICHELIN Guide and diverse culinary ecosystem, Taiwan is set to become a preferred destination for Indian tourists seeking authentic and unforgettable gastronomic journeys.
