Hyatt Debuts Thompson Hotels Brand in Asia with the Opening of Thompson Shanghai Expo

Hyatt Hotels Corporation has announced the opening of Thompson Shanghai Expo, the first Thompson-branded property in Asia Pacific. The opening marks a significant step in Hyatt’s strategy to expand its lifestyle and luxury portfolio across key global markets.

Located in Shanghai’s revitalized World Expo district, the 254-key hotel is positioned to cater to both business and leisure travellers, with proximity to major event and cultural venues including the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center and the Mercedes-Benz Arena.

The new hotel reflects Hyatt’s continued investment in the high-end lifestyle segment, following Thompson’s recent entries in Madrid and other global cities. According to Hyatt, the brand’s arrival in Asia supports growing demand for design-led, culturally immersive hospitality experiences in key urban markets.

Thompson Shanghai Expo also adds significant MICE capacity to the district, featuring eight event spaces, including one of the area’s largest ballrooms, designed to host up to 1,100 delegates.
