
During the Unity Promo Fest, addressing buyers, media professionals and state-level stakeholders, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tripura outlined an ambitious tourism roadmap aimed at placing the state firmly on India’s national and global tourism map.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the redevelopment of the Mata Tripura Sundari Temple under the *PRASAD Scheme, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on *22 September 2025, has become a major catalyst for spiritual tourism. Building on this momentum, work has now begun on the state’s most prestigious upcoming project—the 51 Shakti Peethas Park at Bandhua, conceived as a world-class religious and cultural tourism destination.
He announced that the project, with a total investment of ₹9,770 crore under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment, will transform Bandhua into what he called “Swarg Dwar of Udaipur in Matabari.”
New 5-Day Tourism Circuit Proposed
Recognising Matabari’s rising status as a global religious destination, the state has submitted a proposal to the Ministry of DoNER for a revised five-day integrated tourist circuit, covering:
- Agartala
- Sipahijala
- Neermahal
- Pepaniya
- Amarsagar
- Matabari
- Bandhua (Shakti Peethas Park)
- Chhabimura
- Narikel Kunja
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the proposal would be approved soon, citing multiple discussions held with the union minister.
Narikel Kunja to Be Developed as World-Class Destination
Referring to the short film screened during the event, he said Narikel Kunja, already known for its serene landscape, has been identified for world-class tourism development as part of the Union Budget 2025–26.
In the last one year, 150 homestays have been created and are being run successfully by local tribal communities, reflecting strong grassroots participation in the tourism economy.
Investment Momentum Picks Up
The Chief Minister informed attendees that Tripura has been actively participating in tourism investment summits and roadshows across major Indian cities.
During the North Eastern Region Summit in Delhi— inaugurated by the Prime Minister—Tripura signed MoUs worth ₹15,000 crore, out of the total ₹30,000 crore signed by the eight North-Eastern states combined.
In a significant announcement, he confirmed that a luxury heritage hotel is being developed by IHCL at the historic Pushpvant Palace. “The project is progressing well,” he said, responding to questions raised by the Tourism Minister.
Tripura’s Growth Indicators Strengthen
Sharing key numbers, he said Tripura currently ranks:
- 2nd in the North-Eastern Region in per-capita income
- 2nd in GSDP performance within the NE region
- 3rd best in India in overall law & order indicators, as per NITI Aayog
He added that NITI Aayog has recognised Tripura as a front-runner state due to its governance and development achievements.
Tourism Declared Industry in 1987, Strengthened by Present Govt
Highlighting the long institutional journey of tourism in Tripura, he noted that tourism was first declared an industry in 1987, but meaningful development began only under the current government. A dedicated Tourism Directorate was formed in 2013 to streamline administrative focus.
The government continues to promote entrepreneurship and community participation through schemes like Paryatan Sahayak Prakalp, while digital marketing initiatives have significantly increased the state’s visibility nationally and internationally.
“Tripura is on the Right Path”
The Chief Minister closed his address with confidence and optimism, stating that the state is receiving unprecedented national and international interest.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building world-class tourism infrastructure and ensuring communities benefit directly from the sector’s expansion.
