Air India has expanded its European network footprint with a new unilateral codeshare partnership with airBaltic, Latvia’s national carrier, significantly improving access to the Baltic region for Indian travellers. The agreement builds on the interline arrangement between the two airlines that was put in place earlier this year.
Under the codeshare arrangement, Air India has placed its ‘AI’ designator code on airBaltic-operated services connecting Riga with several key European hubs served by Air India. These include Amsterdam, Paris, Frankfurt, Copenhagen, Milan Malpensa, Vienna, Zurich and London Gatwick, enabling passengers to travel between India and the Latvian capital on a single Air India ticket with seamless onward connections.
The expanded cooperation also strengthens connectivity beyond Latvia, with Air India’s interline framework allowing travellers to access Tallinn in Estonia and Vilnius in Lithuania via select European gateways. Together, the arrangements position the Baltic region as a more convenient and accessible destination for both leisure and business travellers from India.
The move aligns with Air India’s broader strategy to enhance global connectivity by leveraging partnerships across Europe and other international markets. With strong non-stop operations from India to major European cities, the airline is increasingly using codeshare and interline ties to extend its virtual network into emerging and niche destinations.
Air India currently operates direct services from Delhi to Amsterdam, Paris, Frankfurt, Copenhagen, Milan, Vienna and Zurich, alongside services from Mumbai to Frankfurt and from Amritsar and Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, providing multiple connection options for Baltic-bound passengers.
Since its privatization, Air India has steadily expanded its international partnership ecosystem and now maintains over two dozen codeshare agreements and nearly 100 interline partnerships worldwide, offering access to more than 800 destinations globally. The newly added codeshare services are available for booking through airline channels and travel agents.
