Vande Bharat Sleeper Train to Boost Overnight Rail Connectivity in Assam and West Bengal

The upcoming Vande Bharat Sleeper Train is set to significantly enhance overnight rail connectivity across key districts of Assam and West Bengal, offering passengers a faster, safer, and more comfortable long-distance travel experience.

The districts that will benefit from the new service include Kamrup Metropolitan and Bongaigaon in Assam, and Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, Maldah, Murshidabad, Purba Bardhaman, Hooghly, and Howrah in West Bengal, strengthening inter-state mobility and regional economic integration.

The Vande Bharat Sleeper Train will operate with 16 newly designed coaches, comprising 11 three-tier AC coaches, 4 two-tier AC coaches, and 1 first-class AC coach, with a total passenger capacity of approximately 823 travellers.

Union Minister for Railways Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the train features a completely new bogie design with advanced suspension systems, taking performance and safety parameters to a higher level. The interiors, ladders, and layout have been developed using ergonomic design principles, with special emphasis on passenger safety and security.

Designed specifically for overnight journeys, the train’s timetable will allow departure from the origin station in the evening and arrival at the destination early the next morning, offering a seamless and time-efficient travel option for long-distance passengers.

Adding a cultural dimension to the journey, the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train will offer region-specific culinary experiences on board. Services originating from Guwahati will feature authentic Assamese cuisine, while trains starting from Kolkata will serve traditional Bengali delicacies, enhancing the overall travel experience.

The introduction of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train marks a major step in modernising India’s long-distance rail travel, combining advanced technology, passenger comfort, and regional identity in a single service.
