Anand Mahindra, Chairman of the Mahindra Group, has praised the residents of Mawlynnong, describing them as a role model for the rest of India for their strong culture of community responsibility and cleanliness.
In a recent social media post, Mahindra referred to the proverb “It takes a village to raise a child,” noting that responsibility is never individual but shared by the community.
Highlighting the example of Mawlynnong in Meghalaya, he observed that for the residents of what is often called Asia’s cleanest village, cleanliness is not a campaign but a way of life rooted in shared duty, respect for nature and collective dignity.
Mahindra added that if India wants to transform its global image, it will not happen through slogans alone but through collective participation and responsibility at the community level.
The remarks once again bring attention to Mawlynnong’s widely recognised community-led approach to cleanliness and environmental conservation, which has made the village a popular attraction for visitors to Meghalaya.
