Uttar Pradesh Tourism Launches Citizen-Led Campaigns for World Heritage Week

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Tourism has launched two citizen-driven campaigns—‘Heritage Through My Lens’ and ‘Share Your Personal Treasure’—to mark World Heritage Week, culminating on April 18.

The initiatives aim to encourage public participation in documenting and celebrating both tangible and personal heritage, positioning citizens as active storytellers of their cultural legacy.

‘Heritage Through My Lens’ invites participants to capture lesser-known heritage sites through photographs and short videos, highlighting local temples, stepwells, markets, and community landmarks. Complementing this, ‘Share Your Personal Treasure’ focuses on household heritage, encouraging submissions of personal artefacts such as old coins, letters, jewellery, and vintage photographs along with their stories.

Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh said the initiative seeks to deepen engagement with heritage beyond monuments, especially among younger audiences, while fostering pride in cultural roots.

Selected entries will be recognised at the state level, with top submissions winning prizes. Notably, select entries from the ‘Personal Treasure’ category will also be showcased at the State Museum.

Additional Chief Secretary (Tourism & Culture) Amrit Abhijat said the campaigns reflect a shift towards participatory tourism, where communities contribute to documenting and shaping the state’s heritage narrative.

Entries can be submitted via the official Uttar Pradesh Tourism website, with the last date set for April 18, 2026.
