The administration of Lakshadweep has announced a series of relaxations to its tourist entry permit process, aimed at simplifying procedures while maintaining security protocols. As per a circular issued on April 29, 2026, sponsorship is no longer required for tourist category applications, and the earlier requirement of uploading a Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) has also been removed. Instead, background verification will now be conducted directly by the Lakshadweep Police as part of the approval process.
The revised guidelines also allow up to six applicants to be included in a single permit application, making it easier for families and small groups to plan travel. Applicants are required to submit their requests at least 14 days prior to travel, clearly specifying the islands they intend to visit, including transit points. Entry will be strictly limited to the islands mentioned in the permit, with designated transit hubs such as Kavaratti and Agatti, where transit duration will be capped at 12 hours.
Authorities have advised travellers to obtain confirmed permits before booking flights to avoid last-minute disruptions. The move is expected to improve accessibility to Lakshadweep while ensuring that regulatory oversight and security considerations remain intact.
