Telangana seeks central support for tourism, infrastructure development

Telangana’s Minister of Tourism, Jupally Krishna Rao, has called on the Central government for support in boosting the state’s tourism and infrastructure. During a meeting in Delhi last week with Union Minister of Jal Shakti, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Rao emphasized the state’s vast potential and the importance of central funding to elevate Telangana’s tourism sector to new heights.

Rao underscored Telangana’s unique offerings, ranging from eco-tourism and lake tourism to temple, health, and wellness tourism. He revealed that the state government had already allocated significant funds in the annual budget for the sector and outlined a special plan to harness the state’s abundant resources. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, he stressed that the state’s vision would greatly benefit from the cooperation and financial backing of the Central government.

Shekhawat expressed a positive outlook on Telangana’s tourism prospects and assured Rao of the Central government’s support in the sector’s development.

“Under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, we are implementing a new tourism policy aimed at making Telangana the top tourist destination in the country. Central support will help us realize this goal more effectively,” Rao stated.

Also present at the meeting were Vani Prasad, the Chief Secretary of the Tourism Department, and Prakash Reddy, the Managing Director of the Tourism Development Corporation, along with other key officials.

Following this, Minister Rao also met with Union Roads and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari to discuss key infrastructure projects in the state. He urged Gadkari to expedite the construction of a double-decker cable-stayed iconic bridge between Somashila in Telangana and Sangameshwar in Andhra Pradesh over the Krishna River, a project that promises to enhance connectivity between the two states.

Rao also requested the upgrade of the 203.5 km stretch of road from Alampur “X” Road (NH-44) to Nalgonda (NH-565) into a national highway. This route, which passes through multiple towns and includes a major 1.5 km bridge over the Krishna River, is crucial for improving access to various regions of the state.
