Telangana’s Excise and Tourism Minister, Jupally Krishna Rao, announced plans on Friday to enhance tourism at Nagarjuna Sagar and Buddhavanam by developing star hotels and water sports facilities through a government-private partnership. The minister, accompanied by Kamlesh D. Patel (Daaji), founder of Ramachandra Mission, inspected the surroundings of Buddhavanam, a prominent Buddhist heritage site at Nagarjuna Sagar.
The inspection included an assessment of Buddhavanam’s layout, which spans 270 acres, and Vijay Vihar, with the Telangana Tourism Development Corporation’s MD, Prakash Reddy, and Buddhavanam consultant, Sivanagireddy, detailing the area’s unique features. Minister Rao emphasized that Buddhavanam already draws Buddhist pilgrims from Sri Lanka and other parts of Asia and stressed the need for further amenities to enhance the experience for international visitors and attract more tourists.
The minister also directed Miryalaguda Sub-Collector Narayan Amit to conduct a survey of available government land surrounding Vijay Vihar and Nagarjuna Sagar to assess the scope for infrastructure development. This initiative aligns with Telangana’s vision of promoting its cultural heritage and natural attractions through improved facilities and diverse tourism offerings.
