Bhubaneshwar’s Nandankanan Zoo to resume Toy Train services

One of Odisha capital Bhubaneshwar’s famous landmark the Nandankanan Zoological Park will resume Toy Train services after a long hiatus. The Zoo has already received the Toy Train engine and four bogies from Rail India Technical and Economic Services (RITES). A RITES’s technical team is expected to arrive in a week’s time to conduct the trial run. According to Zoo Director Manoj Mohapatra, they want RITES to take up the annual maintenance work for the Toy Train.

Earlier there was a narrow gauge Toy Train that could carry 60 passengers on a single trip, however it went out of service in 2012 because of technical reasons. Cyclone Fani, in 2019, caused further delaye in resumption of Toy Train services. The 3.2 kilometers ride will resume on standard broad gauge now. The new tariff is yet to be decide. IT was Rs. 10 earlier. The Zoo officials expect an increase of 2 lakh visitors per annum after the Toy Train service resumes.
