The third edition of Tour de Hmuifang, one of Mizoram's most difficult sports competitions concluded on Saturday (September 23). The event witnessed a new champion in each category.
Mizoram Tourism Department and Mizoram Cycling Association (MiCA) together organised the cycling competition, in which riders of different ages compete in five categories: Junior, Elite, Master, Road (Open), and Women (Exhibition).
From the sixty-four registered riders, 59 competed comprising 54 male and 5 women; including two racers from other states. The flag off programmed was held at Vanapa Hall Square. The event was graced by Robert Romawia, Mizoram Sports & Tourism Minister. The minister, in his inaugural speech, mentioned that Mizoram Cycling has great prospects, and wished the racers to have a memorable time.
Vanlalruata won the Junior (U-18) category, while the Masters category (Above 35) was won by Peter Zohmingliana. Dr Lalrinmawia won the first Open Road category whereas the Main event, Elite category was won by Richard Zorinsanga. All the Women participants finished the race, too.
Dr. Larozama, IAS, Secretary, Tourism graced the medal ceremony as the Chief Guest, chaired by V. Lalengmawia, Jt. Secretary, Tourism Department. The event was organized as a part of the celebration for the World Tourism Day and to promote Sustainable Tourism. The Mizoram Cycling Association also collaborated with the Aizawl Municipal Corporation, the PM-JAY (Pradhan Mantri Jan ArogyaYojona), and the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, North Eastern Regional Office, Guwahati for organising the event.
