
The Association of Domestic Tour Operators of India (ADTOI) marked a significant milestone as it celebrated its 29th Founders Day in a grand ceremony on August 7, 2025, at The Lalit, New Delhi. Themed around Independence Day, the event showcased the remarkable journey of ADTOI in promoting domestic tourism, with vibrant tri-colour decorations and a backdrop celebrating “29 Glorious Years” of dedicated service to the industry.
The glittering gathering saw the presence of distinguished dignitaries, ADTOI members, media representatives, and special invitees, including Chief Guest Sqn. Ldr. Rana T.S. Chhina and serving officers from the Armed Forces. The event paid tribute to the Founder Members and Past Presidents, recognizing their pivotal roles in shaping the association and advancing tourism across India. Each was felicitated and shared anecdotes highlighting the association’s growth and their contributions.
A key highlight of the celebration was the presentation of the prestigious AKR Award (ADTOI Knowledge & Research Award), conferred on Mr. Ashwani Lohani an iconic figure in the Indian tourism industry and current Director of the Prime Ministers’ Museum and Library Society. Presented by ADTOI President Mr. Ved Khanna, the award recognized Mr. Lohani’s outstanding leadership and relentless efforts in advancing India’s tourism potential. In his acceptance, Mr. Lohani expressed heartfelt gratitude for the honour.
President Mr. Ved Khanna reiterated ADTOI’s commitment to acknowledging visionaries whose work propels the sector forward. He highlighted the AKR Award’s legacy, which was instituted to recognize individuals demonstrating extraordinary commitment to tourism research and promotion. The inaugural recipient, Shri Anil K. Rajput, was honoured posthumously for his pioneering efforts in discovering and promoting offbeat destinations, highlighted by his in-depth field research.
