Air India and Singapore Airlines expand codeshare agreement

Air India and Singapore Airlines (SIA) have announced a major expansion of their codeshare agreement, significantly enhancing travel options for passengers between India, Singapore, and a wide range of international destinations. The new agreement, which takes effect from 27 October 2024, adds 11 Indian cities and 40 international destinations to the airlines’ shared network, marking the first major expansion of their codeshare partnership since 2010.

As part of the new arrangement, Air India and SIA will codeshare on each other’s flights between Singapore and key Indian cities, notably Bengaluru and Chennai, increasing their joint weekly scheduled services between India and Singapore from 14 to 56 flights. This move reflects growing demand for air travel between the two regions and the increasing importance of both countries as aviation markets.

Singapore Airlines will now codeshare on Air India’s domestic routes, offering its passengers seamless travel connections across major Indian cities. These routes include flights from Delhi to Amritsar, Bengaluru, Coimbatore, Lucknow, and Varanasi; from Mumbai to Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bengaluru, Coimbatore, Goa, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, and Thiruvananthapuram; as well as from Kolkata to Guwahati.

For Air India passengers, the codeshare agreement opens up access to 29 international destinations across the Singapore Airlines network, covering Australia, Southeast Asia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, and the Philippines. Among the popular destinations available are Sydney, Melbourne, Tokyo, Seoul, and Auckland, providing travelers more options for leisure and business travel.

Additionally, SIA customers will gain access to Air India’s international flights from Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai to 12 destinations across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Key cities in this part of the agreement include Paris, Frankfurt, Copenhagen, Milan, and London, further broadening the connectivity between India and international markets.

Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial Officer of Air India, said, “This is a continuation of our effort to offer our guests more choice and an extended global network. Air India and Singapore Airlines have been longtime partners, and with this expanded scope of our codeshare agreement, we are excited to offer greater connectivity to destinations across Southeast Asia, the Far East, and Australasia. We also look forward to welcoming Singapore Airlines customers on board our flights within India and beyond.”

Lee Lik Hsin, Chief Commercial Officer of Singapore Airlines, emphasized the growing collaboration between the two airlines, stating, “This expansion of Singapore Airlines’ codeshare arrangements with Air India reflects the strong collaborative spirit between our two carriers. It demonstrates our commitment to meeting the high demand for air travel between India and Singapore and beyond, contributing to the growth of both aviation markets.”

Both airlines plan to progressively expand their codeshare networks to include additional destinations over time, enhancing convenience and travel flexibility for passengers. The expanded codeshare flights will be available for sale through both airlines’ respective booking channels, subject to regulatory approvals.

This expanded partnership between Air India and Singapore Airlines reinforces the strategic importance of India in the global aviation landscape and highlights the growing connectivity between India and international markets, particularly in Southeast Asia and beyond.
