Air India, India’s leading global airline, has reached a significant milestone by receiving the prestigious Design Organisation Approval (DOA) from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). This authorisation, known as CAR 21 approval, allows Air India to independently make design changes and implement modifications to its aircraft interiors, enhancing operational efficiency and reducing downtime.
With this approval, granted on October 25, 2024, Air India became the first airline in India to achieve this level of in-house design capability, positioning the carrier at the forefront of innovation and self-reliance in aviation. The approval was handed over to Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Air India, by D.C. Sharma, Director General of the DGCA, during a ceremony attended by senior officials from both organisations.
The DOA will enable Air India to streamline its fleet maintenance and modifications, allowing for faster restoration and continuous improvements across its aircraft. This will be particularly beneficial as the airline focuses on enhancing its aircraft interiors, an initiative already supported through its partnership with Tata Technologies, a global leader in engineering and product development.
