Air India Boosts Central Asia Play with Uzbekistan Airways Tie-Up, Unlocks Seamless Tashkent Access

Air India has expanded its international network footprint by entering into a codeshare partnership with Uzbekistan Airways, strengthening air connectivity between India and Central Asia. Effective March 20, 2026, the agreement enables Air India to place its “AI” code on Uzbekistan Airways-operated flights connecting Delhi, Mumbai and Goa with Tashkent.

The partnership offers passengers seamless access to Tashkent from key Indian gateways, with the convenience of single-ticket bookings and through check-in of baggage to their final destination.

Beyond Tashkent, travellers can leverage an existing interline arrangement to connect onward to multiple destinations across Uzbekistan, including Bukhara, Samarkand, Urgench and Fergana, significantly enhancing regional accessibility.

Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial Officer, Air India, highlighted Tashkent’s growing relevance across leisure, business and cultural travel segments, noting that the partnership expands choice and convenience for travellers. Shukhrat Khudaykulov, Chairman of Uzbekistan Airways, described the agreement as a new chapter in bilateral aviation cooperation, aimed at broadening networks and creating new opportunities for passengers.

The move reinforces Air India’s strategy to strengthen its presence in emerging international corridors, while positioning it as a more competitive player in the fast-growing Central Asia market.
