Andhra Pradesh is stepping up efforts to position itself as a key cruise tourism destination, with plans to offer incentives and develop infrastructure to attract international cruise operators, according to K. Vijay Mohan, Chairman of the ADTOI Andhra Pradesh Chapter.
Speaking with Travel World Online, Mohan said the state government, along with port authorities, is actively working to promote cruise tourism, particularly from Visakhapatnam.
“Andhra Pradesh is keen to promote cruise tourism in this part of the world, and state Govt. is ready to offer concessions to cruise liners, especially for relocation cruises passing through the region,” he said.
Visakhapatnam Emerging as Cruise Hub
Visakhapatnam is being developed as a strategic cruise destination, with proposed sailings connecting to international locations such as Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand.
He believe that with the right incentives and improved port infrastructure, the city can attract global cruise traffic and become a major stop on international cruise routes.
Domestic Tourism Gains Momentum
Mohan also highlighted that ongoing global disruptions in international travel are creating new opportunities for domestic tourism in India.
“With uncertainties affecting travel to regions like Europe and the Middle East, more travellers are now opting for domestic and short-haul destinations,” he said.
Integrated Tourism Push
In addition to cruise tourism, Andhra Pradesh is focusing on developing MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism through infrastructure projects such as new convention centres in Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam.
The state is also promoting niche tourism circuits, including a Buddhist circuit targeting Southeast and East Asian markets, and a tribal tourism circuit aimed at attracting European travellers.
Connectivity and Future Outlook
Enhanced rail connectivity through Vande Bharat and other express services is expected to further support tourism growth in the state.
Industry stakeholders believe that with a combination of cruise development, infrastructure expansion, and targeted tourism circuits, Andhra Pradesh is positioning itself as an emerging tourism hub in India.
