Arunachal Pradesh Hosts India’s First Border Adventure Race to Boost Tourism at Mechukha

Arunachal Pradesh showcased its adventure tourism potential by hosting the 3rd National Adventure Racing Championship 2025 in Mechukha from April 17–20. Organized by NthAdventure in collaboration with the Arunachal Pradesh Tourism Department, the event marked India’s first-ever border adventure race and is part of the prestigious Adventure Racing World Series (ARWS) – Asia Series.

This high-energy championship featured over 150 km of challenging terrain and included disciplines like trail running, hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, river crossing, rope work, and navigation. Participants hailed from 12 Indian states and 3 countries—Malaysia, Nepal, and South Africa—making it a globally recognized adventure event and a qualifier for the ARWS Asia Championship in Malaysia this October.

Teams were welcomed at Dibrugarh Airport and experienced Arunachal’s hospitality through local homestays in Aalo and Basar. The event route brought racers close to the Line of Actual Control near Mechukha, offering them breathtaking landscapes and cultural interactions with local tribes.

Tourism Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona emphasized the state’s ambition to become a global adventure tourism destination, stating plans to scale up the event in the coming years.

With its rugged natural beauty and borderland charm, Arunachal Pradesh is fast emerging as a premier destination for thrill-seekers and adventure travellers.
