Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma says state to become centre for “medical tourism”

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated a slew of healthcare facilities in the state last week. He stated that the government is working to make Assam a centre for “medical tourism” to cater “not only to the patients of North East but South East Asian nations as well.”

Among them was the 350-bed State Cancer Institute in Guwahati, which will have medical services such as radiation, chemotherapy, surgery/robotic surgery, nuclear medicine, bone marrow transplant, academics and research, and has a project cost of Rs. 395 crore.

At the event, Sarma said that another seven state cancer institutes are planned to be completed in 2025 and 2026. He states that the state government will also introduce Proton Beam Therapy in Assam “to facilitate advanced and targeted cancer treatment in the state.”

He also inaugurated an Art Model Blood Centre with facilities such as Whole Human Blood I.P., Concentrated Red Blood Corpuscles I.P., Fresh Frozen Plasma, Cryoprecipitated I.P., PlateletConcentrate I.P., Platelet Aphaeresis, Platelet Aphaeresis Leucodepleted, Leucopharesis, Plasmapheresis, Leucodepleted Red Cell Concentrate and Leucodepleted Random Donor Platelet, reported The Indian Express.
