Assam Tourism Gears Up for a New Chapter: Stakeholders Chart Roadmap at Guwahati Conference

The Tourism Stakeholder’s Conference 2025 convened on October 6 at Novotel, GS Road, Guwahati, bringing together over 150 industry leaders, policymakers, and professionals from across Assam’s tourism ecosystem.

The conference was graced by Shri Diganta Barah, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary, Department of Tourism, Government of Assam, as the Chief Guest. Prominent dignitaries in attendance included Shri Kumar Padma Pani Bora, IRS, Managing Director, Assam Tourism Development Corporation; Dr. R.K. Suman, Deputy Director General & Regional Director (North East); Shri Mriganka Hazarika, President, Hotel & Restaurant Association of Assam; Shri Vishwanath Goenka, President, North East India Hotel & Restaurant Association; Shri Ashish Phookan, Director, Assam Bengal Navigation; Shri Mukul Medhi, President, Tour Operators Association of Assam; and Shri Nirmalaya Chowdhury, Chapter Chairman, Assam (IATO).

The conference commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, dedicated to the memory of legendary singer Zubeen Garg, as a mark of respect to his lasting contribution to Assam’s culture and identity.

The gathering served as a vibrant platform for dialogue on sustainable tourism growth, infrastructure development, and collaborative strategies to position Assam as a leading destination in the North East. Stakeholders emphasized strengthening partnerships between government bodies and the private sector to unlock the region’s immense tourism potential.
