Assam Tourism Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass Highlights Strong Growth and Leadership at 13th ITM Sikkim

Assam’s Tourism Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass, speaking at the 13th International Tourism Mart (ITM) in Sikkim, highlighted the remarkable progress the state has made in tourism through sustained peace, awareness, and strong administrative leadership.

Recalling earlier years, Dass said that tourism in Assam once involved extensive outreach activities where people were educated daily about the state’s cultural and natural heritage. After 2016, several promotional videos and campaigns were approved, further strengthening Assam’s tourism visibility across India and abroad.

The minister noted that tourism in Assam has seen significant momentum, especially after 2021. He revealed that last year, under the leadership of Tourism Director Dr. Vishesh Sharma, more than 37,000 foreign tourists visited Assam—particularly the popular Madhuri destination—marking the highest foreign tourist footfall recorded there so far.

Assam also witnessed a robust rise in domestic tourism. During the years 2018, 2019, and 2022, over 7.5 million (75 lakh) domestic tourists visited the state. Foreign tourist arrivals, he added, touched 3,000, showing consistent upward growth.

Dass emphasized that the tourism department is working with a focused approach to strengthen peace, education, and cultural understanding, ensuring that Assam continues to evolve as a safe, attractive, and spiritually enriching destination for travellers.

He added that the restoration of peace in the Manas region has opened new avenues for tourism, and the destination is now steadily emerging in an improved and more refined form.

Expressing confidence in the state’s tourism leadership, Dass praised the contribution of Dr. Vishesh Sharma, saying, “Under his leadership, Assam Tourism is continuously moving forward, and with this pace, we are certain to achieve even greater milestones in the coming day
