H.E. Mr. Geraldo Alckmin, Vice President of Brazil, praised Ayurveda as a “5,000-year-old treasure of health and wisdom” during his visit to the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, today. Accompanied by a 14-member high-level delegation, he acknowledged India’s leadership in promoting integrative and preventive healthcare.
“Life expectancy is rising, and the world increasingly needs natural healthcare systems such as Ayurveda. If time permitted, I would have taken treatment for my back pain here,” he said.
The visit showcased AIIA’s pioneering work in Ayurveda education, research, and clinical services. The Brazilian delegation toured the hospital, academic and research wings, and the Centre for Integrative Health Sciences, interacting with faculty, researchers, and students.
Highlighting the growing India-Brazil collaboration, AIIA has signed multiple MoUs with Brazilian institutions including the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and the Federal University of São Paulo. These partnerships focus on academic exchange, joint research, and strengthening evidence-based Ayurveda practices in Brazil.
India and Brazil, both rich in biodiversity and traditional medicine, aim to develop sustainable healthcare models combining ancient wisdom with modern science. Ayurveda and other Indian systems are witnessing rising popularity in Brazil, reflecting a global shift towards holistic and preventive wellness approaches.
Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, emphasized the potential for deeper cooperation in research, education, and wellness industries between the two nations.
