The Cathay Group, comprising Cathay Pacific and HK Express, achieved a significant milestone on December 15, 2024, by carrying 100,856 passengers in a single day—the highest since its rebuilding journey began. This milestone was surpassed a total of eight times during the year-end travel peak ending December 31, 2024.
Ronald Lam, CEO of the Cathay Group, expressed gratitude to the airline’s global teams for ensuring smooth journeys during the busy holiday season. He highlighted the Group’s successful two-year rebuilding process, which focused on expanding flight routes and restoring services to pre-pandemic levels.
Cathay Pacific has resumed its seasonal service to Cairns, Australia, and announced new routes for 2025, including Hyderabad (India), Dallas (USA), Munich, and Brussels. Similarly, HK Express recently added Shizuoka, Japan, to its network and will soon launch flights to Sendai, Japan.
Starting January 2025, the Cathay Group will operate 100% of its pre-pandemic flights, serving 100 global destinations by the year’s end. With the new Three-Runway System in Hong Kong, Cathay remains committed to strengthening the city’s position as a world-leading international aviation hub.
