Darjeeling has emerged as the most searched domestic destination in India’s North-East on digital travel platform Agoda for the period October to December 2025, according to the company’s latest travel search insights.
The data, based on accommodation searches made by Indian travellers between July and September 2025, places Gangtok (Sikkim) second and Shillong (Meghalaya) third, making hill destinations the most preferred choices for domestic travellers during the year-end holiday season.
Guwahati (Assam) and Siliguri (West Bengal) followed in fourth and fifth positions respectively, reflecting their importance as key transit and commercial hubs for travel across the North-East region.
Agoda’s data also highlights growing interest in smaller and emerging destinations, with Cherrapunji (Meghalaya), Pelling (Sikkim), and Kalimpong (West Bengal) witnessing increased domestic search activity. These destinations are attracting travellers seeking scenic landscapes, quieter stays and culturally immersive experiences beyond mainstream hill stations.
Commenting on the trend, Gaurav Malik, Country Director – Indian Subcontinent and Indian Ocean Islands, Agoda, said the rising interest reflects travellers’ growing inclination towards the North-East’s natural beauty and diverse travel experiences, supported by an expanding range of accommodation options including hotels, homestays and serviced apartments.
The findings underline the North-East’s strengthening position as a preferred domestic travel region, particularly during peak holiday periods, driven by improved connectivity, accommodation choices and sustained traveller interest.
