Daily limit on Chardham Yatra affecting people, Uttarakhand moves court to remove the daily cap

Uttarakhand Government has approached the Uttarakhand High Courtseeking removal of the daily limit on the number of pilgrims visiting Chardham.The state government has submitted that the limit on pilgrims is affecting theearnings of businesses and people engaged in Chardham Yatra. The Yatra thisyear had a delayed start and can only continue until mid-November after whichthe weather starts getting inclement for such travel to take place.

 

The high court had imposed a daily limit on the number of Chardhampilgrims as a precautionary measure in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.

 

The state government has also said in the modification applicationthat if the cap cannot be removed entirely then the limit should be increasedto 3,000 for both Badrinath and Kedarnath, 1,000 for Gangotri and 700 forYamunotri. The current limit is 1,000 pilgrims daily for Badrinath, 800 forKedarnath, 600 for Gangotri and 400 for Yamunotri.
