Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao Honoured as ‘Labor Hero’ at Vietnam’s 11th NPEC

Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, founder of VietJet Air and one of Vietnam’s most influential business leaders, has been conferred the prestigious national title of “Labor Hero” at the 11th National Patriotic Emulation Congress (NPEC) held in Hanoi. The honour recognises her outstanding contribution to Vietnam’s economic development, entrepreneurship and employment generation.

The title of Labor Hero is among Vietnam’s highest state recognitions, awarded to individuals whose work has significantly contributed to national growth, innovation and social progress. Dr. Thao’s recognition comes in acknowledgement of her role in transforming VietJet into one of Asia’s leading low-cost carriers and for her broader contribution to Vietnam’s aviation, finance and private enterprise ecosystem.

Under Dr. Thao’s leadership, VietJet has emerged as a symbol of Vietnam’s modern, globally connected economy. The airline has played a key role in expanding air connectivity, promoting tourism, creating large-scale employment opportunities and making air travel accessible to millions of passengers across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond. Her entrepreneurial journey has also been widely viewed as a milestone for women leadership in Vietnam’s corporate landscape.

Speaking on the occasion, officials highlighted that Dr. Thao’s work reflects the spirit of innovation, resilience and national service that the National Patriotic Emulation Congress seeks to celebrate. The Congress brings together leaders from across sectors to honour individuals and institutions that have made exceptional contributions to Vietnam’s development goals.

Dr. Thao’s recognition at the NPEC comes at a time when Vietnam is positioning itself as a fast-growing economic hub in Southeast Asia, with aviation, technology and private enterprise acting as key growth engines. Her achievements are increasingly cited as an example of how visionary entrepreneurship can align with national priorities and long-term development.

The award further strengthens VietJet’s standing not only as a commercial success but also as a corporate entity closely aligned with Vietnam’s socio-economic aspirations.
