Bhutan’s national carrier Drukair has expanded its regional network with the reinstatement of flights to Bangkok and the introduction of an additional weekly service to Singapore via Guwahati, strengthening connectivity between Bhutan, India’s Northeast and Southeast Asia.
The restored Bangkok service revives an important regional link that has traditionally supported tourism, medical travel, education and business exchanges among Bhutan, the northeastern states of India and Thailand. Bangkok also serves as a major aviation gateway in Southeast Asia with extensive international connections, and the resumed flights are expected to boost tourism flows while supporting outbound travel demand from the region.
Under the expanded network, Drukair will operate services on the Paro–Guwahati–Singapore and Paro–Guwahati–Bangkok sectors. The airline said the additional Singapore frequency has been introduced in response to increasing passenger demand and will offer travellers greater flexibility along with improved connections to global destinations.
Tandi Wangchuk, Chief Executive Officer of Drukair, said the new services represent a key milestone in the airline’s network growth strategy. He noted that the expansion also aligns with India’s Act East Policy and will support travel needs related to the development of Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) in southern Bhutan, located close to Assam.
According to Wangchuk, stronger air connectivity is essential for supporting tourism growth, facilitating business and educational exchanges, and deepening Bhutan’s engagement with international markets. He added that as the airline expands its network, Drukair remains committed to sustainable operations while maintaining high standards of safety and service.
