Ethiopian Airlines Unveils Modern Terminal at Wollo Kombolcha Airport to Boost Domestic Connectivity

In a significant step towards enhancing domestic aviation infrastructure, Ethiopian Airlines Group, Africa’s largest airline group, has officially inaugurated a state-of-the-art airport terminal in Wollo Kombolcha, located in the north-central region of Ethiopia.

The grand opening ceremony was attended by H.E. Arega Kebede, President of the Amhara Regional State, senior government officials, Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mr. Mesfin Tasew, and other key executives of the airline.

Built at a cost of over 12 million Euros, the newly completed airport facility includes a modern passenger terminal building spanning 3,500 square meters, a dedicated VIP terminal, and essential support infrastructure. Additional features of the project include an airport rescue and firefighting station, a water reservoir, parking zones, and well-developed connecting roads.

Speaking at the event, Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mr. Mesfin Tasew expressed pride in the achievement:

“We are delighted with the completion of our Wollo Kombolcha Airport construction project that will enhance our passengers’ experience. The inauguration of this new terminal demonstrates our commitment to developing both domestic and international operations simultaneously. This facility will also play a key role in driving the socioeconomic development of surrounding towns and regions.”

Currently, Ethiopian Airlines operates daily flights to and from Kombolcha, with a convenient new route allowing passengers to travel directly between Kombolcha and Bahirdar without transiting through Addis Ababa. This move is expected to streamline domestic travel and improve accessibility to major urban centers in the Amhara region.

The Wollo Kombolcha terminal inauguration is part of Ethiopian Airlines Group’s broader vision to modernize and expand domestic airport infrastructure across Ethiopia. By strengthening regional airports like Kombolcha, the airline aims to boost local tourism, improve business connectivity, and contribute to balanced regional development.

As Ethiopian Airlines continues to invest in high-standard airport infrastructure, it reinforces its commitment to making air travel more efficient, accessible, and comfortable for Ethiopian citizens and international visitors alike.
