Finnair Expands Fleet Strategy with Embraer E2 Order, Eyes Used Airbus Narrowbodies

Finnair has signed a firm order for 18 Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, with options for 16 more and 12 purchase rights, marking asignificant step in its regional fleet modernisation strategy. Deliveries are set to begin in Q3 2027.

The airline has also secured engine and maintenance agreements with Pratt & Whitney for the PW1900G engines powering the new jets. In parallel, Finnair plans to acquire up to 12 Airbus A320/321ceo aircraft from the secondary market to replace ageing A319s and A320s, ensuring near-term capacity stability.

CEO Turkka Kuusisto said the combined approach of new-generation and used aircraft will

support growth, improve cost efficiency, and reduce emissions, while strengthening regional connectivity and feeding long-haul operations.

The 134-seat E195-E2, to be operated by Norra, is expected to deliver over 30% better fuel efficiency per seat along with enhanced passenger comfort and lower noise footprint.
