The 26th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle, held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, witnessed an overwhelming participation of over 1,000 cyclists and fitness enthusiasts. Organised in collaboration with Indian Railways as special partners, the event marked a significant milestone in the national fitness movement. The event was graced by Bollywood actress Madhurima Tuli, celebrated wrestler Anirudh Kumar, and mountaineer Narender Kumar, among other special guests.
The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports honoured Madhurima Tuli known for her role in the film Baby as a Fit India Icon, recognising her background as a state-level track and field athlete. Expressing her gratitude, she said, “Cycling has been my childhood hobby. It is affordable, liberating, and mentally uplifting. Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya have rightly emphasized the health risks of obesity.”
With the strong backing of Indian Railways, the event saw large-scale involvement from railway officials, sportspersons, and staff. Cycling drives were conducted across India by over 2,600 cycling clubs and organisations including Khelo India Centres (KICs), State Centres of Excellence (KISCEs), SAI Training Centres (STCs), Khelo India Accredited Academies (KIAAs), Regional Centres (RCs), and National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs). Railway employees and local communities actively participated from locations as diverse as Alwar, Tinsukia, Kurukshetra, and Bolpur.
The event also featured Zumba, yoga, and rope skipping sessions, guided by My Bharat, Yogasana Bharat, and the Rope Skipping Federation of India. Wrestler Anirudh Kumar, a gold medallist at the 2024 U23 and U17 Asian Championships, highlighted cycling’s benefits for stamina and fat loss, encouraging young participants to embrace fitness. Mountaineer Narender Kumar, preparing for his expedition to Mount Elbrus, applauded the movement for inspiring youth across India to move away from digital distractions and focus on their health.
Launched in December 2024, Fit India Sundays on Cycle has grown from 150 participants to impacting over 3.5 lakh citizens across 10,000+ locations nationwide. The initiative owes its success to widespread support from organisations such as the CISF, Armed Forces, Indian Medical Association, educators, media professionals, corporates, and celebrities, making it a true people’s movement for a healthier India.
