The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is actively taking measures to protect the tomb of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in Khuldabad, Maharashtra, amid reported threats, Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat informed the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.
Responding to a query, Shekhawat confirmed that the tomb is an ASI-protected monument and its details remain available on the ASI website. The site falls under the jurisdiction of the Aurangabad Circle.
In response to concerns about threats from extremist groups, the minister said ASI has implemented multiple security measures, including erecting a 12-foot-high metal sheet barrier, installing concertina wire on boundary walls, deploying private security personnel alongside ASI staff, and conducting regular inspections in coordination with local authorities.
