Himalayan Guardian Nepal Launches Affordable Device-Based Insurance for Tourists

Nepal has taken a groundbreaking step in tourism safety with the launch of Himalayan Guardian Nepal (HGN), an innovative insurance company founded by former Nepal Tourism Board CEO, Dr. Dhananjay Regmi. The initiative introduces the world’s most affordable insurance packages tailored exclusively for foreign travelers visiting Nepal for cultural tours, trekking, or high-altitude expeditions. Unlike traditional travel insurance purchased abroad at high costs, HGN provides locally available coverage at unmatched prices, integrated with advanced technology for real-time safety. Policyholders are equipped with a satellite-connected device featuring an SOS button, ensuring uninterrupted communication even in the most remote Himalayan terrains. The device links directly to insurance companies, rescue operators, and medical teams in Nepal, enabling immediate dispatch of helicopters, Sherpa guides, or doctors during emergencies.

HGN has designed three insurance categories to cater to diverse traveler needs: cultural and leisure tours up to 3,500 meters with a 14-day policy at just $16 per person; trekking up to 5,500 meters with a 14-day coverage priced at $150 per person; and peak climbing up to 6,000 meters with a 60-day policy costing $500 per person. These policies are available through licensed trekking and tour agencies in Nepal, as per government regulations, with agencies authorized to add a 10–15% service fee. This system ensures tourists’ safety while streamlining the purchase process. Beyond affordability and accessibility, the introduction of device-based insurance is expected to eliminate fake rescues and over-billing practices in hospitals, restoring global trust in Nepal’s tourism sector.

With Himalayan Guardian Nepal, the country positions itself as a pioneer in responsible adventure tourism by combining affordability, transparency, and cutting-edge rescue technology. This landmark initiative is set to boost Nepal’s reputation as a safe, reliable, and world-class destination for international travelers.
