IATO Convention 2024 in Bhopal aims to boost inbound tourism for Madhya Pradesh

The 39th Annual Convention of the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) kicked off on August 30, 2024, at the Taj Lakefront in Bhopal, with the aim of revitalizing inbound tourism in Madhya Pradesh. Rajiv Mehra, President of IATO, expressed optimism about the convention’s potential impact, highlighting its role as a catalyst for increasing international tourism to the host destination.

Mehra emphasized that the IATO conventions are known for delivering long-term benefits that go beyond immediate tourism promotion. “The 2024 convention includes a series of post-event tours to iconic destinations such as Sanchi, Udayagiri, Bhimbetka, Ujjain, and Satpura National Park. These tours are strategically designed to showcase the diverse appeal of Madhya Pradesh, from its spiritual and religious landmarks to its natural beauty and historical treasures,” said Mehra.

Historically, IATO conventions have proven highly beneficial for host states, generating increased international attention and tourism. The past conventions have led to a 20-30 percent rise in international tourist arrivals within a year, creating a significant economic boost for the host destinations. With this strong track record, Madhya Pradesh is well-positioned to leverage the convention’s exposure to attract a substantial increase in inbound tourism.

The IATO convention, which runs through September 2, is expected to draw significant attention to Madhya Pradesh’s unique offerings, enhancing its profile on the global tourism stage and contributing to its long-term growth in the travel and hospitality sector.
