IHCL Partners with Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port to Redevelop Historic Chotelal Ki Ghat in Kolkata

Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) has signed a collaboration with Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata, to redevelop the historic Chotelal Ki Ghat, a Grade I heritage site built in the 1870s on the Hooghly Riverfront. Supported by INTACH (Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage), the project is aligned with the Government of India’s Namami Gange Program and Swachhata Initiatives. IHCL will invest up to INR 5 crores under CSR over three years to restore, conserve, and beautify the ghat while preserving its deep cultural and historical significance for West Bengal. According to Gaurav Pokhariyal, Executive Vice President, Human Resources, IHCL, this initiative reflects the company’s ESG+ framework Paathya, committed to safeguarding India’s cultural heritage while creating positive social and environmental impact. The redevelopment plan includes conservation, landscaping, and artistic engagement with local communities, offering opportunities for wall and boat painting by artists, improved facilities for stall vendors, and an enriched space for residents and tourists. Rathendra Raman, Chairman of Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, emphasized that the MoU represents a milestone in heritage-led sustainable development, ensuring that Chotelal Ki Ghat is revitalized not only as a cultural landmark but also as a vibrant public and tourist destination for generations to come.
