IHG Hotels & Resorts Surpasses 50 Hotels in Japan, Plans Major Expansion

IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG) has reached a significant milestone with 50 open properties in Japan, reinforcing its commitment to growth in this key market. The company remains on track to double its estate, following the successful debut of Six Senses, Vignette Collection, and Garner in Japan. This achievement was celebrated during IHG CEO Elie Maalouf’s visit to Tokyo, where he met with owners and partners to mark a strong 2024.

Key Highlights:

  • Luxury Expansion: Six Senses Kyoto launched as the brand’s first property in Japan, adding to IHG’s urban luxury collection.
  • Collection Brands Grow: Vignette Collection entered Japan with RIGHA Royal Hotel Osaka and The Windsor Hotel TOYA Resort & Spa.
  • Midscale Market Entry: Garner introduced three hotels in Osaka, targeting Japan’s growing midscale segment.

Strategic Growth & Future Plans
Abhijay Sandilya, CEO of IHG ANA Hotels Group Japan, emphasized that Japan is a priority market, with IHG capitalizing on both new-build and conversion opportunities. International brands represent just 5% of Japan’s hotel market, far below the global average of 20-25%, providing IHG with a strong opportunity for expansion.

With Japan Tourism Bureau forecasting a record 40.2 million international arrivals in 2025, IHG is set for further growth. Upcoming milestones include the return of Holiday Inn to Tokyo and Kyoto, the expansion of ANA Crowne Plaza to Okinawa, and InterContinental’s debut in Sapporo.

IHG’s strong brand portfolio and enterprise platform position it for rapid expansion, ensuring more choice and premium experiences for travelers in Japan’s thriving hospitality market.
