India Has Strong Opportunity to Position Itself as Global MICE Hub: Naveen Kundu

India has a significant opportunity to position itself as a safe and attractive destination for global Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) tourism amid ongoing global uncertainties, according to Naveen Kundu in a recent interaction with Travel World Online.

Kundu highlighted that the current global climate presents a favourable window for India to strengthen its presence in international tourism and business travel.

“India can emerge as a preferred destination for global MICE and tourism, provided there is strong collaboration between the government and industry stakeholders,” he said.

Focus on Domestic MICE to Strengthen Industry

He emphasized the importance of promoting domestic MICE business to retain revenue within the country and reduce dependence on international markets.

“Encouraging domestic MICE travel helps insulate the industry from foreign exchange volatility and ensures more stable growth,” Kundu noted.

Need for Strategic Promotion

Kundu called for coordinated efforts between the government and private sector to launch targeted campaigns showcasing India’s infrastructure, safety, and diverse offerings to global audiences.

Transport Sector Shows Resilience

Reflecting on the transport sector, he noted that despite facing multiple challenges in the past—including events like the 1984 riots and global health crises such as Ebola—the industry has consistently adapted and evolved.

Post-pandemic, domestic travel demand has surged, particularly in the premium and luxury segment, boosting demand for high-end transport services.

Challenges Remain

While rising fuel costs and operational challenges continue to impact the sector, Kundu stressed the importance of discipline and efficiency.

“Transport operators must remain committed, honest, and disciplined in managing their fleets to sustain long-term growth,” he said.
