In a landmark move to enhance regional tourism collaboration, India actively participated in the ASEAN–India Tourism Professional Exchange Programme 2025, held from April 18 to 20 in Malaysia, alongside the prestigious MATTA Travel Mart. The event was a key initiative under the ASEAN–India Tourism Work Plan (2023–2027) and aligned with the ASEAN–India Year of Tourism 2025, highlighting shared goals of responsible, innovative, and sustainable tourism development between India and ASEAN countries.
As part of the Indian delegation, tourism professionals and government representatives engaged in high-level discussions and interactive exchanges focused on capacity-building, cultural integration, and tourism education. The event saw the presence of distinguished dignitaries including the Hon’ble Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, the High Commissioner of India in Malaysia, leadership from the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO), the Principal Secretary and senior officials from Assam Tourism, along with tourism stakeholders from across ASEAN nations.
The programme emphasized the importance of tourism innovation, skills development, and people-to-people connectivity in strengthening bilateral and regional ties. The interaction among experts and policymakers fostered a shared vision for sustainable tourism growth, exchange of best practices, and the promotion of cultural heritage across borders.
This milestone event not only reinforced India’s commitment to regional tourism cooperation but also opened new doors for collaborative initiatives in tourism training and cross-cultural exchange. As India and ASEAN continue to work together under this multi-year roadmap, the ASEAN–India Tourism Exchange stands as a powerful example of how strategic partnerships can pave the way for a thriving and inclusive tourism ecosystem in the Asia-Pacific region.
