
In a landmark achievement, India will host the prestigious 21st World Rose Convention for the first time in 2028, with Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh chosen as the venue. The announcement was made during the recently concluded 20th World Rose Convention held in Fukuyama, Japan. The World Federation of Rose Societies (WFRS) officially handed over the hosting flag to Shri Sheo Shekhar Shukla, Principal Secretary, Tourism, Culture, and Religious Trusts & Endowments Department, and Managing Director, Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board (MPTB), marking the transition of hosting responsibilities to Madhya Pradesh.
Over 700 international delegates are expected to attend the 2028 convention in Bhopal, which is known for its scenic lakes, lush gardens, and rich cultural heritage. The event will feature thematic rose gardens, technical sessions, cultural performances, and a showcase of Madhya Pradesh’s tourism and biodiversity.
India’s global presence in the floriculture sector was further highlighted with the election of Shri Sushil Prakash as President of the World Federation of Rose Societies – the first Indian to hold this prestigious position. The Indian delegation at the Japan convention included representatives from the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, Travel India Tours, and the Madhya Pradesh Rose Society, along with support from the Consul General of India in Fukuoka, Shri Ramkumar.
The 20th World Rose Convention in Japan welcomed over 500 delegates from countries including Australia, the UK, Finland, South Korea, and various parts of Europe. Madhya Pradesh’s participation stood out as it presented the state’s cultural richness and sustainable tourism potential through lectures and workshops, enhancing India’s image on the global tourism and horticultural map.
Madhya Pradesh Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel serves as the Chief Patron of the state’s Rose Society, reinforcing the state’s commitment to floriculture. Principal Secretary Shri Shukla expressed pride and enthusiasm for hosting the event, inviting rose lovers from around the world to experience the heart of Incredible India.
Organised every three years, the World Rose Convention is the flagship event of the World Federation of Rose Societies and brings together horticulturists, researchers, and enthusiasts for exhibitions, expert talks, and innovation sharing in rose cultivation. The 2028 convention in Bhopal is poised to spotlight India’s horticultural excellence and cultural vibrancy on a global stage.
