India’s Tourism Sector Achieves Milestone Growth, Contributes $199.6 Billion to GDP in 2024

India’s tourism industry reached an all-time high in 2024, contributing a staggering $199.6 billion to the nation’s GDP, fueled by significant growth in both inbound and outbound tourism. The country also advanced to the 39th position on the World Economic Forum’s Travel & Tourism Development Index, signaling a bright future for the sector.

Rikant Pittie, CEO and Co-Founder of EaseMyTrip, expressed pride in the industry’s evolution, attributing its growth to government initiatives such as PRASHAD, Dekho Apna Desh, Incredible India, and the E-visa scheme. “These initiatives have driven digitization, encouraged exploration of hidden retreats, and enhanced overall industry growth,” Pittie stated.

With a budget allocation of ₹2,479 crore for the tourism sector in FY25, the nation has seen significant advancements in infrastructure and travel experiences. Looking ahead, Pittie envisions a transformative era for Indian tourism, emphasizing global collaboration, heritage preservation, and cutting-edge digital infrastructure. He reaffirmed EaseMyTrip’s commitment to promoting sustainable tourism, digital innovation, and economic growth while encouraging citizens to embrace these values.
