IndiGo Names Willie Walsh as CEO, Signals Global Leadership Shift

InterGlobe Aviation Ltd., the parent of IndiGo, has appointed global aviation veteran Willie Walsh as Chief Executive Officer, marking a significant leadership transition for India’s largest airline. The appointment is subject to regulatory approvals, with Walsh set to join by August 3, 2026, following the completion of his tenure as Director General of International Air Transport Association (IATA) on July 31.

Walsh brings decades of leadership experience, having previously served as CEO of Aer Lingus, British Airways, and International Airlines Group (IAG). Walsh expressed enthusiasm about leading IndiGo, citing its strong foundation and growth potential, and underscored his focus on building a culture of excellence, innovation, and sustainable value creation.

The appointment comes at a critical juncture as IndiGo accelerates its international expansion and reinforces its position in an increasingly competitive global aviation landscape.
